INNOAGRAL, A SPANISH LABORATORY INTEGRATED IN THE AB BUSINESS GROUP, BECOMES A REFERENCE LABORATORY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD IN THE DETERMINATION OF HYDROXYANTRACENIC DERIVATIVES (HAD) AND ANTHRAQUINONES

Our laboratory is consolidated internationally, with clients in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, USA, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, India, Asia, Singapore, Thailand …, in the determination of hydroxyanthracene derivatives (HAD) and anthroquinones (aloin , emodin, aloin A, aloin B, aloe-emodin, dantrone …) helping our clients to comply with Regulation (EU) 2021/468 of the European Commission.

On the 19th of March, 2021, Regulation (EU) 2021/468 of the European Commission was published, which modifies Annex III of Regulation (EC) 1925/2006 of the European Parliament and the Commission. The new publication restricts the marketing of foods, including food supplements, that contain certain hydroxyanthracene derivatives (HAD) such as aloin, emodin, dantrone….

HADs are natural substances in certain vegetables and plants such as Aloe Vera and its derivatives that are generally beneficial in improving intestinal functions. Likewise, the consumption of these substances in certain concentrations are of concern inrelations to of food safety (EFSA 2018).

This does not mean that since the publication of Regulation (EU) 2021/468 of the European Commission the marketing of products containing HAD, if manufacturers must justify that their products contain traces lower than 1ppm of HAD (aloin, aloe- emodin, emodin, aloin A, aloin B …).
